Raapwerk aims to smooth out the wall. Particularly in monumental buildings, but also in new-build homes, the walls are rarely completely flat. Sometimes a flat surface is required (e.g. for gluing tiles), but grazing light over a wall or ceiling that is not completely flat can also be very disturbing.

With turnip work it is possible to straighten crooked walls or ceilings by “picking up” certain parts thicker or thinner.

Turnip work can also be applied to curves such as fireplaces and stair curves. In addition, counters and other round profiles can be processed in turntables.
